In the fields of precision manufacturing and decorative printing, pad printing technology has become an indispensable process link in industries such as electronics, automobiles, toys, and medical care due to its unique advantage of being able to achieve precise transfer printing on three-dimensional curved surfaces and irregular workpieces. However, in actual production, incomplete patterns, local lack of ink, or jagged edges are extremely common quality defects, and their causes are complex and require systematic diagnosis.

The phenomenon of lack of ink usually manifests itself as white spots inside the pattern, broken thin lines, or thin color layers in large areas. The primary cause is often insufficient etching depth or wear of the printing plate (steel plate), resulting in insufficient ink storage in the grooves; secondly, improper ink preparation - such as excessive addition of solvent leading to a decrease in the pigment ratio, or premature gelation of the ink by the curing agent, which will reduce the transfer rate. In addition, the silicone pad print head serves as a transfer intermediary. If its surface ages, its surface energy decreases, or its hardness does not match the curvature of the workpiece, it will not be able to pick up the ink evenly or completely release the ink, resulting in local transfer failure.

Missing edges are more likely to cause physical transfer failure, often manifesting as incomplete pattern outlines, burrs, or rounded corners. This is mostly related to the surface condition of the workpiece: if there are release agent residues, oil stains or microscopic unevenness on the surface of the substrate, the ink will not be able to wet and spread at the moment of contact, and the edges will shrink and cohere. At the same time, the pressing speed and pressure of the pad printing head are also crucial - too little pressure will result in inaccurate contact between the ink and the workpiece, and the edges cannot be clearly shaped; too much pressure may cause excessive deformation of the silicone head, stretching and deforming the pattern, creating blank areas at the edges.

To solve such defects, it is necessary to build an "equipment-material-parameter" linkage optimization system: regularly detect the depth of the steel plate and replace worn parts; dynamically adjust the ink viscosity according to the ambient temperature and humidity; select the shape and hardness of the pad printing head that matches the curvature of the workpiece; and strictly implement the workpiece cleaning process. Only by moving process control to the prevention stage can we eliminate ink shortage and edge loss from the source and ensure the stability and reliability of pad printing quality.
